Ever want to get on the air with CW, but couldn’t find your key? OH6CD solves this problem with some inventive, and strange, solutions. He improvises keys using everything from a toaster to a trailer hitch.

I found this old film on YouTube.com this morning. It is a Pete Smith Specialty film titled “Radio Hams”, circa 1939, or thereabouts, and was posted to YouTube by “WA6TKQ” (can’t find that call at qrz.com). This news real comedy film is from a couple of decades before my time, but I remember seeing it years ago. Quite fun…

Sentiments of Winter March 9, 2008

A few people on the Flying Pigs QRP Club’s email reflector (FPQRP-L) were expressing how tired they are with winter today, and I remembered this picture. I originally posted this on one of my other web pages a couple weeks ago.
A friend of Linda’s forwarded this image to her. I don’t know who the photographer is, but he/she certainly expresses the feelings of many of us winter-bound people. Since it is already making the Internet-rounds, I take the liberty of presenting this image here.
Infinite 2D Square of 1Ω Resistors January 20, 2008

I’ve never generally really been much good at math; geometry is a little easier, but algebra, Fourier techniques, etc. don’t come easy. This problem is posed as “On this infinite grid of ideal one-ohm resisters, what is the equivalent resistance between the two marked nodes?”
I’ve seen this image a few times, but most recently as part of a comic titled “Nerd Sniping“.
There is a lengthy discourse on this problem at http://www.geocities.com/frooha/grid/node2.html, but in the end it appears to boil down to “R=2/π”, or 0.63661977236758134307553505349006 Ω. Approximately. About. Something like that.

James Matherly, W0JRM, has written an opinion piece, focusing on some of the silliness of some blog writers, and their lemming-like behavior. A good, quick read. But don’t expect any bright colors or pictures. Go read his piece to find out why.
